Tips to Remember the Months

At first glance, you’ll notice that the Italian months look very similar to English ones — only the pronunciation changes a bit. That’s good news! It means you already know most of the spelling.

Here’s how to make them stick in your memory:

  1. Listen and repeat – Say each month aloud three times a day. Try to pronounce the double letters clearly (e.g., maggio, luglio).
  2. Group by seasons – Learn them in small chunks:
    • Inverno: dicembre, gennaio, febbraio
    • Primavera: marzo, aprile, maggio
    • Estate: giugno, luglio, agosto
    • Autunno: settembre, ottobre, novembre

Grouping helps your brain connect meaning and imagery.

  3. Make it personal – Write down which months are special to you: your birthday, holidays, or important events. Say them in Italian! (Il mio compleanno è in aprile. Natale è in dicembre.)
  4. Visual memory – Print an Italian calendar or use sticky notes with the month names on your wall or desk. Seeing them daily reinforces memory naturally.

With just a few minutes of daily practice, you’ll soon be saying all the months in Italian without even thinking about it.
